This module is concerned with studying challenges that face deltas and lagoons worldwide with focus on the case of the Nile Delta in Egypt. The module is part of a DAAD collaboration project between Kassel, Mansoura and Kafrelshiekh (Egypt) Universities under the title “Delta-Kassel – URRM - Urban Resilience and Risk Management: Understanding Egypt’s Delta Region”. In this regard, a winter school is organized in form of two full-day blocks, 24.10, 25.10 and 30.10-01.11. Within the winter school, partner-universities members along with external experts from the Global South and Global North will focus on the challenges facing the world from an urban perspective. Besides, they will focus on climate change challenges, showing on hands practice and examples from various parts of the world. As part of the DAAD project, four fellows from Egypt with various backgrounds (e.g. Resilience and urban planning) have been invited to Kassel university in the winter semester. Those fellows will be part of the second block, where they will give participants insights on the case of Nile Delta and its challenges. Additionally, Egyptian experts will participate in the second block, where they will present in-depth analysis for the Nile Delta and its history. Participants from Kassel, Mansoura and Kafrelshiekh universities are expected to work in groups to develop a vision for the development of the Nile Delta and how to overcome the various challenges facing it. Due to the pandemic and the restrictions of traveling worldwide, the teams will work in mixed groups and will communicate their findings during both activities through online channels. Each group will focus on one of the challenges that is highlighted during the winter school, and deepen their understanding for it, as well as propose an alternative to overcome such challenge. The Delta-Kassel project offers 3 prizes for the winners of the competition: 1st Prize (500 €), 2nd Prize (350 €) and 3rd Prize (250 €).
