This course will engage students in the evolution of the juvenile court system in the United States from its inception during the Progressive Era through the “Get Tough” era that produced the criminalization and disproportionate incarceration of youth of color. Examining original documents and recent secondary literature, students will conduct primary research themselves and participate in applied learning activities.
