This course will introduce students to different
approaches and conceptualizations of childhood and children in various
disciplines, including history, sociology, cultural studies, and literature. Apart
from appreciating the value of interdisciplinary work, students will learn how
children have figured prominently in questions surrounding the definition of agency,
the performance of identity, and the construction of gender, sexuality, and
race.
