Undoubtedly, it is of the utmost importance that pupils get the chance to read various novels, short stories, poems etc. while they are in school. Nevertheless, it must not be forgotten that nonfiction becomes increasingly important to students as they get older.
For children to read and learn from nonfiction texts they must be exposed to nonfiction regularly, and, just as importantly, they need to learn the unique features of the different text types. Accordingly, it is essential for teachers to understand what is necessary when it comes to dealing with newspaper articles, letters, information leaflets, reviews etc. The same is true for working with political cartoons. Therefore, participants will get to know and discuss different reading and analyzing methods and strategies.
Theoretical knowledge will, of course, constantly be linked to practical issues of classroom teaching, which means that participants will develop ideas of how to implement nonfictional texts and political cartoons in the EFL pupil centred classroom with respect to literacy and personal development.
