From physical megastructures to geoengineering experiments, from
protocols underlying digital networks to natural resources powering the
machines and gadgets in our daily lives, infrastructures are omnipresent
and yet difficult to map. They entail different realities that are
stacked on top of each other in ways that are inextricable. The seminar,
offered as a collaboration between FB05, FB06, and the Kunsthochschule,
will explore how infrastructures organize, structure, and construct
geographic and urban space. Together, we will think about such questions
as: What is the difference between social, physical, geographic, and
environmental space? How is space constructed by infrastructures? What
is the environmental role of geoengineering, and how is one to live in
its aftermath? How do art and architecture become spatial
infrastructure?
