Debates on socio-ecological transformation are often conducted from the
perspective of the Global North, with standards, certification and
similar mechanisms being developed in partnership with transnational
corporations. On the other hand, critical Post-Development approaches
perceive the Global South in a certain way, privileging struggles by
indigenous peoples and peasants. Instead, this seminar focuses on the
realities of millions of workers in the Global South. What examples can
we find for Just Transition movements – i.e. labour-led strategies for
the transformation of climate-relevant sectors of the economy? The
seminar looks particularly at agro-industrial production and aims to
incorporate the voices and aspirations of workers who labour at the
starting points of agro-industrial value chains and at those migrant
workers in Europes’s industrialised agricultural landscapes.
